Save Money. Live Better.

You may have read on another blog that Keeping the Kingdom First has been selected as one of 11 moms taking part in Wal-Mart’s Walmart’s upcoming Money Saving Community Project.

Well, its true. With the big launch right around the corner, I figured it was about time I finally announce this to my own wonderful readers.

Here’s the scoop:

In conjunction with their new motto “Save Money. Live Better.”, Walmart is creating a money saving community centered on YouTube. The eleven gurus have each received a Flip Video Camera to make short videos featuring money saving tips. The beauty is–I can vlog about anything related to saving money. There are no requirements or restrictions (so, in case you are wondering, yes, I can vlog about CVS).

To be completely clear-this is not a paid position, and I am completely in control of my own content. I am under no obligation to promote Walmart.

These vlogs will be featured on the Walmart channel to help launch this new community. There is even an opportunity for moms just like you to upload your own video tips!

The incentive? The public (that’s us) will vote for the top 10 tips submitted by moms (not the gurus). The winners will receive a 1 year supply of groceries from Walmart!

The project is set to go live right after labor day, so stay tuned for updates. I am very excited to be working with this fantastic group of women:

Frugal Upstate
MomAdvice
Keeping the Kingdom First
GeekMommy’s WebLife
The Domestic Diva
Jessica Knows
The “Cent”sible Sawyer
Classy Mommy
Being Frugal
Deal Seeking Mom
Coupon Cravings
From Dates to Diapers

You may be curious as to why I waited so long to make this announcement. It has been in the works for a few months. Honestly, I wanted to sit back and watch the response throughout the blogosphere.

So far, I am pleased to report that it has been overwhelmingly positive. However, as we all expected, there have also been some not-so-enthusiastic responses.

I embraced this opportunity with Walmart for a few reasons:

1. My passion is helping others save money. My blog only reaches so many households. The potential to reach hundreds, or even thousands of households who may be struggling with finances is amazing.

2. The chance to make a difference. My long time readers may remember some Walmart frustrations I shared a while back. Coupon policies are an issue for many of my readers. What if I could help?

Actually, just the other day, some of the other bloggers and I had the opportunity to speak with a Walmart Senior Director via conference call. We discussed our shopping experiences at Walmart, along with our coupon woes. We were heard, and most importantly, our feedback was valued and taken seriously. Refreshing, to say the least!

Obviously, involvement in such a project may eventually lead to bigger and better paid opportunities down the road, which I am a completely open to. But for now, I plan to keep doing what I have been all along:

Helping others save more and give more, one coupon at a time…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Several times in his writings, Paul talked about God opening doors of opportunity for sharing the gospel.

    Here’s one of the verses:

“because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”(! Cor. 16:9)

If this is God’s door move through it with His purpose in mind and ignore the detractors.

    Congratulations!

    Congrats on your exciting adventure!!!!!

I’m glad to hear they are taking the couponing issues seriously as I refuse to shop at Wal-mart for that very reason. Maybe if they address that issue, I will start shopping there again.
