I've found that I'm a much "better" seamstress when I don't worry about perfection. I'm learning tons as I go and getting better all the time - to the point that I'm making some blocks for my nephew for Christmas without a pattern OR tutorial! :>) They're not going to be perfect, but I am pretty sure he won't care.
