White Cloud Rate the Rolls Challenge

rate-the-rolls

Confession time.  Amy’s guest post last week was a surprisingly hot topic. Many commenters have gone or intend to go paperless in the name of frugality and/or greener living.

I am not one of those people. {gasp!}

While I do make every effort to use them sparingly, sometimes there are messes that just require a paper towel. Like dog puke. And various other messes of which I will spare you all the gory details.

I typically have no brand loyalty when it comes to my paper products. It’s on sale? I buy it. With a coupon? You betcha.

But I was pleasantly surprised to hear that White Cloud recently introduced their GreenEarth line of paper towels. They are made from 100% recycled fiber. So if I am gonna use paper towels, my conscience the environment would certainly benefit from using a greener alternative.

Over the next few months, I will be working with White Cloud on a series of projects along with my fellow bloggers:

Briana (Bargain Briana), Sommer (Green and Clean Mom), Alicia (Get Buttoned Up), and Miranda (Keeper of the Cheerios).

Together we’ll be trying out some of the eco-friendly White Cloud products which are available at Walmart. Stay tuned for coupons, giveaways and more!

To kick off the project, each of us were sent a mysterious box earlier this week.

box-paper-towelsThey challenged us to figure out which roll in the box is the White Cloud roll. Simply labeled roll A and B, I had no clue which is which.  First impressions:

  • Roll A is thicker, and brighter. Looks suspiciously like Bounty a leading competitor.
  • Roll B is a bit rougher, with smaller print.

I put it to the ultimate test with the assistance of one very cute baby.

paper-towel-testColin is immediately drawn to roll A. But he still keeps a close eye on roll B.

mess-makerEven the dog is not quite sure what to make of it all.

The verdict? I prefer roll A over roll B. It is bigger, and has the choose-a-size sheet option, which I love for smaller messes. Roll B does its job, but seems as though it is likely the eco-friendly product.

The bottom line? If both are the same price, I would definitely choose A as the better value. But hey, if B is cheaper, I would likely buy it.

I’ll find out soon which roll is which and keep you updated! Y’all know how much I love a good challenge, so I am looking forward to hearing the results.

Which roll do you think is White Cloud?

*Full disclosure: White Cloud compensated me for my time on this project. As always, all words and opinions are my own.

I admit – I am completely ignorant of this aspect of ‘green.’ I know that using a water filter and refilling and cup or washable bottle saves me money and the plastic waste those countless bottles create.
I don’t know enough about the lifecycle of trash to understand the cost/benefit of green paper goods. In my ignorance, I’d imagine that at the landfills, paper, both tissues and paper towels, would decompose pretty fast. Is the purpose of the green PT to use up the supply of recycled fibre, to reduce the demand for new, or both?
I think too much, I know. Even ignoring cost, is the world better off if I need to drive an extra few miles to pick up this new product? Or does even a extra mile driven, along with its own issues, negate the green advantage, and I should only go for it when my regular stores have it available.
I need a “Green for Dummies” to help understand the impact of all these decisions we make each day.

Joe, I am no scientist, but I believe the biggest benefit would be reducing the need to cut down more trees for paper. And since these products are available at Walmart, if you shop there anyway, there is no extra driving involved. Generally, I think using recycled products or reducing waste is another way to be a good steward of our God-given resources.

      Thanks for the question! 🙂

Paper towels are helpful in some areas, but try plastic bags for dog puke! we resorted to using our plastic shopping bags as gloves, to pick up that mess! just a helpful hint…

      Hi Liz,
The link to Alicia’s blog is correct. Unfortunately, it looks like her site was recently hacked. 🙁

Does the fluffier one have a cardboard tube down the center?
Because it looks like it doesn’t, and if it doesn’t then it’s the White Cloud no doubt.
