Coffee Break: Proverbs 15:1

I LOVE the early-morning time: the cool air, the calm before the chaos, the quiet reflection…

My coffee is strong and black {as usual}.

My Bible is open to Proverbs 15:1.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Ummmm, well… ouch.

You know how there are things that you know you should do/say… things that are the right way to do something?

This is one of those “things” for me, as I know I should always give a gentle answer.

Unfortunately, what tends to spew from my mouth is the first thing that comes to my mind: sarcasm.

Many times, sarcasm = harsh.

Harsh words make tempers flare.

When you speak to someone nicely, it makes it harder for them to be angry/rude/sarcastic back to you. {Well, nine times out of ten, anyway.}

So, then, why do I tend to go the other direction and reply with annoyance and disregard?

Do I blame it on my humanity? On my human nature? Or the general tendency of humans towards sin?

Truly, I have no right to place blame on anything but myself. Anything else would be considered an excuse.

A gentle answer turns away wrath…

Maybe I should try that.

Should you?

    Wow, you spoke right into my heart. You are right on the money honey. Thanks for bringing it to my attention so I can repent. Now I have to go apologize to an 8 year old and 3 year old…and maybe my husband too.

    I have actually taught this verse to all 3 of our children, as they are high strung like their parents! This week, the same Scripture came back to bite me as I did not follow it very well, and my children called me on it! Thanks for sharing!
