Easy Reading with the Kindle App

I am a self-confessed book-aholic… I absolutely love reading!

One of my favorite memories of my childhood was going to the library during the summer. I would check out as many books as I was allowed and read them all… immediately. {Ask my mom.}

I am a super-fast reader, so I go through books pretty quickly. When it comes to book purchases, I haven’t always been frugal (blush). I tend to buy 6-7 books at a time.

Yes, I said buy. If I like a book, I want to re-read it a few times!

I have found a more frugal alternative to buying all of those books… my Kindle app for my iPhone (if anything can be considered frugal about the iPhone, this is it!). Both of the books I read this weekend, I read on my iPhone, and LOVED IT!

What I really love about the Kindle, and the Kindle for iPhone is the portability.

It was SO EASY to read my book while laying in bed next to my snoring sleeping husband. The light from the phone gave no need for a lamp, and thus not disturbing my sweetie.

If you have a Blackberry, you will be excited to know that Amazon has released the Kindle app for Blackberries now (yay for all you BB users!). And of course, if you need another gadget, you can always purchase a Kindle. Truly, I am more than happy with the app on my iPhone.

The most frugal option for bookless reading is the Kindle for PC. You can download the Kindle app right to your lappy and read from there. While this is not the easiest option, it is certainly cheaper than hitting the bookstore 😉

The biggest and most frugal reason for choosing the Kindle app? FREE books!

Amazon has tons of completely, totally free Kindle books available for download. And the apps for your phone and/or PC? They are free as well. Tara at Deal Seeking Mom keeps an updated list of free Kindle books (in fact, her site is where I first learned of the free Kindle app!).

Other bonuses to the Kindle include:

  • Many Kindle books are $9.99 and under, making the “wireless” version less expensive than the “book” version.
  • There are over 400,00 titles available for download.
  • It supplies that “instant gratification” that us book-loves so desire (I seriously dislike waiting for new books to ship!).

While I know the library is the least-expensive option, the Kindle app is so much fun, and it works for me!

Final note: This is the most frugal reading option for me. I realize this is not feasible for everyone; however, I would encourage you to look into the free version for your computer, as this costs you nothing. Many of the titles are less expensive than regular books, and it might be a more frugal option for other book-lovers. That being said, the words and opinions voiced in this post are completely mine. While I have included a few Amazon affiliate links, I was not compensated in any way, nor was I asked to write this post. This is something I wanted to share with my readers, as it is part of my life and something I enjoy.

    I love the Kindle App for my iPhone. I love using the white text at night to dim the glow of the screen. Free books change frequently, so keep looking. I just wish the ebooks my library offered were compatible with it (or any reader on the ipod).
