More Thoughts on Diapers…

Disposable diapers have been a necessary evil in my life for many years. Here are some observations I have made along the way:

My daughter Sara was born in 2000. I was young, and single, so I did my best to save money on diapers. But, I was a devoted Huggies loyalist. I tried others, including generics, and was never quite as satisfied. Fast forward to 2006, Leah comes along. Naturally, I went right back to my Huggies buying ways, for a while. The price had certainly changed in those 6 years! Feeling the pinch, I began experimenting with other brands. Surprise, surprise, diapers had changed too! All of the generics now have the velcro tabs (instead of sticky), and stretchy waste bands, just like my beloved Huggies! Sure, some are better than others, but overall, generic diapers have improved a LOT over the last few years.

I became a preschool teacher last fall to 10 delightful 2-year olds. Needless to say, not all of them are potty trained, so I have changed MANY diapers. The diapers are supplied by the parents, and as a result, each child usually has a different brand. So, I have first-hand experience with many different kinds! What differences have I noticed between the kids with premium diapers and the kids with generic? Very few. All in all, they perform the same function, and end up in the trash. I have seen leaks happen in every brand, though they are rare since diapers these days are so absorbent. Leaks are actually much more common in Pull-Ups, which, go figure, are more expensive!

What are your thoughts on your favorite brands? Are you a loyalist? Are you willing to switch?

Even in our strapped state, I was a loyalist. I did sign up and receive coupons, which I tried to use each time I bought diapers.

Leah has been asking to sit on her “big girl potty”, so I hope to be out of the diaper phase very soon!

I was a loyalist until I became a tightwad, lol. My first baby could wear any brand of diapers without a problem. My boys could only wear huggies for the first few months without leaking. Then with my last two I was a pamper’s swaddlers addict. They are still my favorite for the early stages, after that it is whatever I can get for the least amount of money. I still love pampers but not enough to spend their college education on them!

I am a loyalist to CLOTH DIAPERS! We use Huggies now though…it’s a long story but suffice it to say I can’t keep up with washing cloth diapers for two dhildren!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it though!

I have to say Sams’ Club brand Smiles WAS my favorite (they quit selling them though so now we buy huggies.
