The CVS $5 Challenge: August 17-21 OR 23rd

I am back! I am so excited about this week’s CVS $5 Challenge. There are several scenarios I see that result in low OOP (out of pocket) for those newbies.

Once again, last week exceeded my expectations! I was thrilled to see some new participants. Thank you so very much!

Did you catch the odd dates in the titles (August 17-21 OR 23rd). Here is why, thanks to Money Saving Mom:

“Note: Be sure to look carefully at your CVS ad this week since CVS has changed the sale dates in several test markets, including Dallas/Ft. Worth. In these markets, the sale will run Friday-Thursday, rather than Sunday-Saturday. From what I hear, CVS plans to try this out for six weeks and then evaluate whether to apply these new sale dates nationwide.”

Well, I happen to live in one of the test market areas. As a result, I was quite confused when I received my weekly CVS ad in Friday’s newspaper. Not only are the dates different, the ad in general looks different, including new fonts and layouts.

Upon careful inspection of my ad and the online ad, I can confirm that the deals are the same. Thank goodness! The CVS $5 Challenge would be in serious jeopardy if the regional deals were different.

So, if you happen to be in a test area, these deals are valid through Thursday, August 21. A new ad will be released again on Friday. To avoid confusion, I will continue to post the CVS $5 Challenge on Sundays.

If you are a first time visitor, here’s the lowdown:

Join me on Sundays as I host The $5.00 CVS Challenge!

Seasoned CVSers: share your best scenario(s) for the upcoming week at CVS.

Your budget: $5.00 out-of-pocket cash.

Your mission: to grow that $5.00 into even more ECBs to use in upcoming weeks.

Simply post your scenarios on your blog (you are welcome to grab the button), then drop by Keeping the Kingdom First and add your permalink to the Mr. Linky box.

Please link directly to your post, not your homepage. It would be lovely if you would also link back to The CVS $5 Challenge in your post.

If you have any questions about linking, please feel free to email me!

*RULES*

1. Come up with your best scenario/scenarios for the upcoming week at CVS using the current weekly ad, monthly deals, and coupons available. Your budget for Out of Pocket (OOP) expenses on the first transaction is only $5.00 (either cash OOP or ECBs on hand).

2. Using up to (3) scenarios (we don’t want to overwhelm the newbies with too many transactions), offer up your best scenarios to “grow” that $5.00 into more ECBs to use in following weeks.

3. If you want to divide your $5.00 allowance over the three scenarios to make them work, that’s fine!

4. Be sure to list coupons by inserts and/or with links to printables to make it easier for everyone to follow along.

I am new to the CVS world, I just got my Customer Care Card. Can you explain the ECBs? I have no clue what they are and didn’t see anything about them in the paperwork I had to fill out for my card or the add!

I just started “cvs’ng” a few weeks ago, thank you for all your senarios! This week is a bit of a bummer for me though because most of the coupons people are using are from inserts that came out BEFORE I started clipping. OH WELL.

The revlon in Georgia area south of Atlanta is $7.99. Also the wipes BOGO free i did not find them on the flyer. I did see them in the store they are BOGO free, but the price is 2.99. When i scanned the wipes to check the price it did not say bogo free, so i did not get it. I thought it was a little pricey, but when i got home and calculated using (2) 75 cents off coupons it came to $1.49 for both so i guess it’s still a good deal.
Thanks for all your hard work and may God continue to bless you with free time to work on the blog.

Alright, I get CVS. It is quite simple in fact. The thing I don’t understand, that there are signs on CVS advertisements, in store, etc. that say ” earn 2% back on every purchase, except for prescriptions, alcohol, smokes, yada yada yada…” So can anyone explain to me where my 2% cash back is? I am confused? Thanks so much!
