Labor Day Weekend Gas Prices

Have you enjoyed the recent dip in Gas prices? Nationwide, prices have fallen almost 50 cents over the last 2 weeks.

However, prices are still 33% higher than they were one year ago! Ouch!

With a 3-day weekend approaching, perhaps you are considering a road trip. Just a heads up for y’all… prices are expected to spike this weekend with the impending arrival of Hurricane Gustav.

My advice? Go fill up ASAP. Ideally fill up in the morning, before the ground temperature reaches its peak.

My family is staying put this weekend and I don’t mind one bit. Are you going anywhere? Are higher gas prices keeping you home?

We are staying in the area, but this is more due to my husband’s work schedule than the gas prices. I always expect gas to go up anytime a holiday weekend is approaching…thanks for the reminder, I do need to put a little gas in the tank before the prices go up.

We are staying home too but mostly because my husband is out of state. I need to fill up when I pick the crew up from school today.

We’re house sitting my parents house, so we’re not really doing anything for labor day weekened. Fine by me, and yeah..Gas Prices are crazy. That clip is funny. (o:

We are going to Hershey Park on Sunday (2 hours away), using the free tickets that I got from grocery deals in June. But since I somehow managed to get through the past two weeks without spending a dime of my gas money (we are on cash envelopes – thank you Dave Ramsey!), the extra gas money to go there isn’t going to hurt as much!

Good tip! We are just staying home – my hubby has to work all 3 days of the weekend! 🙁

But we will get some things done around the house, which is a good thing.

My husband is out of town, but my daughter and I are going to have fun at home all weekend, and happily so!

Our gas prices just dropped a bit but that will probably change in the morning! We’re staying home this holiday and working on finishing our kitchen floors. We need a break from running anyway! Enjoy your long weekend 🙂

Well, I could say that we are staying at home and leave it at that, but truth be told, we just drove 8 hours round trip to WI Dells and today I drove 3 hours round trip to go to my friend’s cabin for the day. Oh well – summer is ending soon, right! At least we hit it before a possible hike!

BTW – what is with the ground temperature comment? Do you get more when it is chilly or what?

  12. Alyssa @ KeepingTheKingdomFirst says

To clarify the ground temperature tip:

“Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations
have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening….your gallon is not exactly a gallon.”

Found this on several other blogs, so not sure who to properly credit.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 3 day weekend, driving or not!
