I’m Back! (sorta)

Well, I took a couple of much-needed bloggy days off. Yesterday I had the best of intentions. I clipped my coupons, and printed my Grocery Game list. I was all set to head to Kroger. Then I promptly laid down for a quick rest– and could not get back up.

Dizzy spells have hit with a vengeance. I have the unusual problem of extremely low blood-pressure. If anyone has any hints or advice about how to alleviate dizziness during pregancy, please share! So far, the only relief is laying down on my side for several minutes. Don’t worry, I am getting plenty to eat!

Needless to say, I did not get any shopping done. My sweet hubby went instead. Tonight, we ate pizza for dinner. Not so frugal, but it was delicious!

In other news, I did manage to visit the Financial Peace University series that is currently being offered at my church. Bloggy friend, Kami, and I were invited as guest speakers on the subject of couponing. Since helping others save money is my passion, I really enjoyed this opportunity. Talking about coupons is energizing for me, and I could go on for hours!

We demonstrated our coupon binders, explained the Grocery Game, and of course I mentioned CVS. I hope we helped a few others on their frugal journey. If you are not familiar with Dave Ramsey’s FPU, Pete over at Bible Money Matters did a whole blog series on that very subject.

Some of the folks from FPU may be visiting my blog over the next few days. Just for fun, I would love to hear how couponing has changed your life. Share with us in comments!

I’ve been enjoying your tips on your blog. It has been very helpful to me!

You might have an iron deficiency. It is very common in pregnancies, and can cause dizziness and extreme fatigue. Ask your doctor about taking a supplement if you aren’t already.

Congrats on the baby! I just found out I am having another one and we are so excited.

Eat protein!! You need 100 grams of protein during pregnancy to help the baby grow strong and to keep your body strong. I know how important protein is with my first two children. With my third baby, I learned more about nutrition and focused on eating plenty of protein. I felt so much better. The baby was very healthy and the placenta was strong (a good sign of adequate nutrition). God bless you and your little ones!

I had such a problem with the dizziness and low blood pressure, and I also had low iron levels. Sometimes eating something heartier helped, like a steak–not very frugal, I know!

    Keep hydrated, too!

I also had very low blood pressure during pregnancy. I passed out several times. I found that root beer for some reason helped me to feel better. I don’t know if it was some random pregnancy craving thing, but it worked for me. I was also sure to drink over a gallon of water a day and to always stand up very slowly. Good luck, I know it is the pits.

I, too, have low blood pressure, which is MUCH worse when I’m pregnant. Fluids are really important. Sports drinks help a lot, because of the electrolytes. (And, they are frugal with all the great deals we get on them!) Limiting caffeine, eating frequent meals, and eating extra salt also help. I also found that kneeling (in prayer) was a REALLY bad idea, since no matter how slowly I got up, I almost always got very dizzy. Oh, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I have no advice about the dizziness, but it sounds like others do so I will respond to the second 1/2 of your blog entry. I am so glad you spoke at FPU. I always thought it would be a great addition to that program to have you speak. You opened my eyes to saving money on groceries when you came to MOPS, so I am sure you helped many others by your words and advice.

I have no advice for dizziness I remeber that well, I had a hard time riding in the car. As for my new frugal ways I think it goes woth out saying how your blog has changed my life for the better.
We will be at the park off Johnson again today at 1:00 if you are up to it 🙂

Congrats on your pregnancy — hope this little one arrives healthy and perfect!

The dizziness stinks – especially when you have other small kids to chase around the house. I echo what one commenter said — keep drinking fluids (watered down Gatorade) and give yourself thirty seconds or so to get up from sitting down. Not always feasible when the 2 year old is dumping stuff down the toilet, though!

    😉

    Take care!

had the same low blood pressure thing. especially with my third. i would be driving them in the mini van and all of the sudden know i was about to pass out, so i’d pull into the next fast food stop and get myself whatever sounded good and just park and eat and get the kids something too so that i could just have some silence. and after a few minutes i usually felt well enough to continue or at least make it home. its scary and frustrating though.

Get rest whenever you can and don’t worry about getting everything done. I normally have low blood pressure, but it usually rises a little during pregnancy. I think you’re doing what’s best and resting. Increase your water and sodium intact, which is what the cardiologist recommended to my teen who has extremely low pressure. (Runs in my family – even my mom). He told her that if she doesn’t drink a lot of water, including Powerade during the day, and increase her sodium that he’ll get her driver’s license taken away!

Okay, for the question: I love a good deal. Couponing has changed my life by opening up funds when I may not have had them to spend on something else I need and it has given me a sense of fulfillment that I am doing everything I can to be a good steward over my money.

Water, water, water…or any kind of fluids! I have low BP, too, and I can tell when I’m dehydrated.

You are a blessing! God has given you a passion and a gift, and you are faithfully sharing it. WTG!

First of all congrats on baby. I also wanted to say i attended our church’s FPU classes and they were awesome. I am going to be speaking on the 27th to our women’s group at our church and I am excited but very nervous because i don’t usually get up in front of a lot of people and talk so any tips or suggestions would be greatly apprecited. mellowyellow5619@yahoo.com

I occasionally deal with LBP…never been pregnant, so who knows how that will go…BUT, one way to cope with symptoms…it’s a temporary help is to COUGH…coughing naturally raises your blood pressure. it can buy you time to sit down or pull off the road. my grandmother also was good at fainting with LBP (due to medications) and so the doc told her to cough when she felt like she was unsteady or dizzy to buy her time to sit down and recover. hope this is helpful.

I am new to your blog and LOVING IT!!!
But I did want to say, everyone is going to have suggestions when it comes to pregnancy. Iron is a biggy though. You may want to ask your Dr about extra iron. It helps me out ALOT! I am 20 wks and have suffered w/ constant exhaustion and dizziness.
May God bless your pregnancy! Thank you for all your time & effort you put out for us!

Alyssa, I’ve been reading your blog for about two months, and I just had to share this with you: after about 5 weeks of couponing and the Grocery Game, I had my CVS cashier tell me on Tuesday that I had the longest register receipt she had ever seen! It included $7 in ECB and two other coupons. Maybe not the longest of all time, but I impressed my local cashier at least. 🙂
