Last week’s challenge was another success! Thank you to all who participated.
You can now grab a clickable CVS $5 Challenge Button for your post or blog.
If you are a first time visitor, here’s the lowdown:
Join me on Sundays as I host The $5.00 CVS Challenge!
Seasoned CVSers: share your best scenario(s) for the upcoming week at CVS.
Your budget: $5.00 out-of-pocket cash.
Your mission: to grow that $5.00 into even more ECBs to use in upcoming weeks.
Simply post your scenarios on your blog, then drop by Keeping the Kingdom First and add your permalink to the Mr. Linky box below.
Please link directly to your post, not your homepage. It would be lovely if you would also link back to The CVS $5 Challenge in your post.
If you have any questions about linking, please feel free to email me!
*RULES*
1. Come up with your best scenario/scenarios for the upcoming week at CVS using the current weekly ad, monthly deals, and coupons available. Your budget for Out of Pocket (OOP) expenses on the first transaction is only $5.00 (either cash OOP or ECBs on hand).
2. Using up to (3) scenarios (we don’t want to overwhelm the newbies with too many transactions), offer up your best scenarios to “grow” that $5.00 into more ECBs to use in following weeks.
3. If you want to divide your $5.00 allowance over the three scenarios to make them work, that’s fine!
Here is MY $5 Scenario for the week of January 18th:
*coupons in red
Transaction #1
Buy 1 Herbal Essences product @ $2.99
$1.00 Herbal Essences 12/28 P&G insert
Total After Coupons= $1.99
ECBs earned= $1.00
Transaction #2
Buy 1 CVS Brand 24 hr Allergy Relief, 5ct @ $3.79
Pay with $1.00 ECB from above
Total After ECBs= $2.79
ECBs Earned= $3.79
Grand Total OOP= $4.78
Total Value= $6.78 with $3.79 ECBs remaining!
Keep rolling those ECBs for even more savings!
*********************************
There you have it! A way to play the CVS ECB game by helping newbies learn the ropes. And who knows – you just might be inspired yourself by some of the deals you find, too!
Don’t have a blog? You can leave a comment with your scenario, too. I invite everyone to participate in The $5.00 CVS Challenge – no deal is too small, believe me!
By the way, we bloggers LOVE to get comments, so please do take a moment to spread a little comment love. Thanks!

I didn’t do a $5 challenge this time (didn’t quite make it!) but I wanted to share anyway! 🙂
I bought:
2 Crest $3.98
6 Reeses Whips $3.00
3 ag cards $2.97
2 Excedrin $3.98
2 Bic twin 10pk $5.98
coupons used:
2 crest $1.50/1
3 reeses whips $1/2
2 Excedrin $2/1 (adjusted down)
2 Bic $2/1
Paid with $4.99 ecbs and $1.92 oop, and received 3 ecbs (from the greeting card deal). Which is pretty awesome, I think, for toothpaste and razors and medicine!
I love the $5 challenge. It is a great place to start for beginners. It’s where I started. Some of the ladies at my church asked if I could teach a class on shopping CVS. I wish I could wrap your blog up into a booklet and say “here you go”.
These were some older ladies who are not into the computer/blogging thing.
Keep up the good work.
I’m a new reader to this blog and love to read the scenarios people come up with. Thanks for hosting this! One small complaint – it seems like some of the participants don’t follow the $5 out-of-pocket rule and use much more than $5 in ECB’s from previous purchases. As someone who is reading this looking for bargains, I find those submissions misleading after reading the headlines of how much money they saved. I think it’s awesome they saved that much, but it’s not meeting the intent of a $5 challenge.
