I have been a loyal Ebates customer for over a year now. I have sung it’s praises on my blog many times! But there’s a new kid in town…
Cashbaq– have you tried it?
I heard about Cashbaq from Tara, and decided to give it a try. I love the instant $5 sign-on bonus!
Ebates also offers a bonus, however you do not receive it until you make your first purchase.
I had grandiose plans of a comprehensive review of both services to decide which one is my favorite. But I still have mixed feelings.
Ebates has treated me well over the last year. Each quarter, a lovely check arrives in my mailbox with my rebate and referral bonuses ($5 for each friend that signs up and makes a purchase).
I have yet to receive a check from Cashbaq, so I cannot give it a full review. One major difference is the referral structure.
With Cashbaq, you earn a percentage of what your friends earn, rather than a flat fee. Ebates gives you a flat 5 bucks.
Cashbaq has over 2,000 merchants, Ebates has roughly 1,000. Both are free online shopping services with excellent reputations.
One thing I do like about Cashbaq are the cash back offers (no pun intended). What I mean is this: they have specials that give you a lump sum back as a rebate, rather than a percentage of your purchase.
For example, these offers are now available through Cashbaq:
- Buy a 2009 Entertainment Book @ 35% off retail with free shipping, earn $10 cash back. (Final cost= $6.25, a great deal!)
- Join Netflix and earn $15 cash back after one month of membership.
- Join Weight Watchers online and receive $10 cash back.
Ebates has daily specials and double rebates from time to time.
So… I would love to hear from those of you who are familiar with both programs… what do you think?
Is one better than the other overall for online shopping? Or do you prefer to see who has the better deal on a particular store or product?
Please share your experiences or questions here in comments.

I’ve got to throw in a third option and say Big Crumbs has been amazing for earning some great extra income. I love buying stuff on ebay and they offer some great deals that match ebates. I’m earning about $20-$30 a month on Big Crumbs and I most of it comes people who signed up with my referral link.
Thanks for the tip, PD, I have yet to try Big Crumbs. I think I will hop over and check it out!
I will through out Mr. Rebates which offers the same percentage of referrals type deals. I use them over Ebates, but they are almost identical.
Haven’t heard of Big Crumbs or Cashbaq.
I really haven’t tried any, but will be checking into them – thanks!
I am a cash back veteran and I must say that Cashbaq is the only one that has ever caused me problems. I use Fatwallet and Microsoft Live Cashback frequently and they always come through, no questions asked. As for Cashbaq, be very skeptical about the Entertainment credit they offer. Sometimes you get it other times you don’t. And don’t expect that they will be there to help – It’s not going to happen.
I’ve been using Upromise for 6 years but stumbled upon these other options today. My Upromise earnings are transferred to my designated 529 plan. Does anyone use Upromise also? Upromise also has the Famous Footwear BOGO 1/2 off offer coupled with %15 off and you earn 8% of the transaction, which appears to be a bit lower than cashbaq (10%).
Alyssa-
Thanks for the write up. We’ve been hard at work all year improving Cashbaq. We launched with a new look last week and made the site more social. You can now talk about stores that you love and hate. Plus, we have grown to almost 3,000 online stores and services!
HowYouDoing, I am sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience with Cashbaq. This month we sent out payments for thousands of Entertainment Books. We rely on reporting from our partner stores. If you didn’t get credit, just fill out the Transaction Inquiry form in our Customer Service Center. The only thing that we had an issue with was the system didn’t properly credit for multiple books (we pay per book, not per order) and we went through to manually credit those when we discovered it.
Stay tuned… we have a lot more planned for Cashbaq!

CEO & Founder, Cashbaq
I’ve used both Cashbaq and Ebates and like them both. I would have to save my favorite, however, is Mr. Rebates.

Cashbaq supposedly sent out a check 3 weeks ago. To date I have not received anything. A ticket to their support centre 4 days ago is still unanswered.
I am a member at cashbaq. I earned a check in Nov which I never received via USPS. I have submitted 6 tickets with their customer service and a phone message since 12/3. I have neither heard back from them nor received the check.
To this point, I have concluded that
1) their customer service is non existent or is ignoring me.
2) stated cash payouts are irrelevant if they do not pay your earnings.
3) their customer service is incredibly inept; they have a cashflow problem delaying the cashbaq or I am getting ripped off which, at this point, I am really not seeing a difference.
If they make good, I will update.
I can second the BAD experience with Cashbaq.com. Stay far away from this site, unless of course, you enjoy wasting your time and getting ripped off.
I too was sent an imaginary check November 20, 2010 that never arrived. Cashbaq.com is completely unresponsive to repeated inquiries. They will even erase these inquiries from your help ticket history.
They are also unresponsive to my BBB complaint. They are cheating a lot of people. Check out this page: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/cashbaq-c401911.html.
I’m sticking with Ebates, Shopathome, and mrrebates. They acutally send the payment.
@carol, Oh wow, I am really surprised to hear this. I have been receiving my Cashbaq checks every month for over a year now. But your comment made me realize that I have not received one in quite a while. Thank you for the heads up!
Cashbaq is kaput. Check their website- they are history. You won’t be getting paid.
@Sherri,
I have been waiting for a $145 check from cashbaq only to find out it is no longer running. I am sick of this happening to me! It seems whenever I try to save money or pre-pay for something this happens!
I have never used cashbaq, kind of glad I haven’t being as their site isn’t up anymore. I use RewardsRunner and have always got my cash back.
