Congratulations to last week’s winner of the fabulous diaper cake from Diaper Cakewalk!

Commenter #52 – jceko77

She gets to choose any 3-tiered cake from the bestsellers gallery at Diaper Cakewalk.

On to this week’s giveaway, a must-have for worried moms!

I wish I had discovered this product years ago. Actually, I wish my mother had one when I was growing up! She raised 4 girls who loved to swim, and were constantly plagued with swimmers’ ear. I will never forget the pain of those infections.

The EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor is easy to use, and gentle on a child’s ear. It is a fast and easy way for parents to check for fluid in the middle ear. I imagine this is tremendously helpful when you have a child who cannot yet verbalize what they are feeling!

It is safe to use in children ages 6 months to young adult. You simply position the tip in your child’s ear, and press scan. Within seconds, results are indicated on the display panel.

My favorite aspect of the EarCheck? It can eliminate unnecessary doctor office visits.

For example, my older daughter has allergies that affect her sinuses. She occasionally mentions pain and pressure in her ear when the allergies are flaring up. Just a few months ago, we visited the doctor only to be told she did not have an ear infection. By using the EarCheck, I now know if she simply needs to take her antihistamine, or make a trip to the doctor for antiobiotics. Money saved!

I also appreciate that the EarCheck can detect signs of fluid at the early stages of infection, before your child is miserable. There is nothing worse than a cranky toddler with a full blown ear infection!

Wow, I wish I would have had this last week! My 5yo had what I thought was a minor earache until he woke up Friday morning with blood draining from his ear. Turns out he had a burst ear drum, and I felt like a totally rotten mom.

    Great giveaway, Alyssa!

I would really enjoy getting this EarCheck. I am always baffled by ear infections and issues. I would feel much more confident with this handy tool as I try to decide if the doctor is needed or not. Thanks. Jessica – findjessica@mailcity.com

  7. Jane - Mom Generations says

As competitive swimmers growing up, and belonging to a pool club in the summer, my sister and I were always dealing with swimmers’ ear! I know my sister could use one of these now with 4 little boys who are prone to ear infections. In fact, her two youngest both have ear infections right now.

  8. Pleasant says

I have one of these, they are great. Doc did not agree though.. but it was right – baby really did have an infection. Good Luck To All. If I win it, I will keep as spare or give away in a Good Will Box to a single mom.

  9. themarquezfam says

I would love this! With two boys, who also swim, there’s the constant wonder (worry) of what’s going on in their ears. Lots of trips to the dr. could be saved!
    Thanks!
    Sharon

  10. Misty says

I am starting swim classes with my boys this year and ear infections was a concern of mine this would be a big help, thanks! Misty mnmzzatmsndotcom

  11. Mrs. Dan says

I have two kids. My 2 year old is non-verbal due to developmental delays and my other child is a newborn. It will be helpful to know if they are crying due to an ear infection. This is especially important to me since I lost my own hearing as a baby due to ear infections.

  12. Holly says

My 18 month old has gotten numberous ear infections in his short life 🙁 I would love to have one of these to detect it early though or avoid going to the Dr’s office if it isn’t his ears…

My daughter is on her 3rd ear infection in the last 6 weeks. Since she has no symptoms except night-waking :), I’d love to have this monitor so I can know for sure before I pay that dreaded co-pay! Thanks – Krista kikistone17 at gmail dot com

I have two little ones under the age of three, and as we all know, they just can’t tell you what’s wrong when they don’t feel good. I would love to have this monitor to help me narrow down what might be hurting them!

  15. Misty says

I would love this! My kids haven’t had many ear infections, but have been taken to the doctor one too many times because I thought they did!! 🙂

  16. ydelauder says

I would love to win this! My one l year old son was just diagnosed with an ear infection last month, and this would help us to determine if he is still suffering from an ear infection, or if he is just cranky from teething. I have taken him back to the doctor twice only to be told the ear infection is all cleared up.

  17. kristi_runwatch says

My son is 1 y.o. and likes to pull on his ears all the time, so I have a hard time distinguishing when it’s hurting him and when he’s entertaining himself!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    Hi,
I am new to your blog and love it! I have 3 boys ages 2,3 and 4. Well, you can imagine the troubles when fevers arise. I would greatly benefit from this!
    Thanks~Julie
    p.s. I have a daughter named Alyssa:-)

  19. Leah says

I have a 4 month old and am also a first time mom and am constantly questioning every out of the ordinary behavior of her, why isn’t she sleeping when she usually does, etc. This would be SO helpful in eliminating the wonder of its an ear infection or not!

  20. RuddRamblings says

As a mom of a 7 month old who is learning how to move faster than me I need a thermometer that will get an accurate temperature and fast!

  21. Haewon says

wow, this sounds like a great product. my 3 yr old daughter recently had an ear infection. she said her pillow was hot to describe her pain!!

  22. petiteblogger says

This would be fabulous to have in our house. We have 3 kids 4 & under & usually get 3-4 ear infections a year between them. So, I am always paranoid that that's what's going on so many times I take them to the doctor, spend $40 on our copay & find out it's just a cold, or teething, etc…

  23. Terra Jones says

I don’t know how many trips we’ve made for potential ear infections in 2 years!! we’d love this to help us better determine ear infections!!

  24. mindy says

Wow, I had no idea they made these! My 9mo. old has a life-altering Urea Cycle Disorder. Too much protein (whether from food or infection, virus/bacteria etc) causes ammonia to build in his brain and leads brain damage or even coma/death. Ear infections are our ENEMY! The tiniest infection can send him into hyperammonia and has to be flown to John’s Hopkins for emergency treatment. This product would be such a blessing and relief!

  25. Leslie says

I am a pediatric nurse and let me tell you.. this is one item EVERY one with kids should have in their house!
I have an otoscope and know how to use it, BUT this take most if not all the guess work out of “Does the little one have an ear infections and should we call the Dr!”
GREAT Giveaway! This is as necessary as a Baby Thermometer!

My husband and I were just talking about getting one of these! Our son gets lots of ear infections, so this would be a great help (although hopefully ear tubes will help out too!). Thanks! je_leas@hotmail.com

  29. Melissa says

I have wanted one of these for a long time! in fact my daughter is sick right now and It would be so nice to have one of these so I wouldn’t wonder all the time.

I also subscribe to your feed

  30. esha says

This would be great since my both of my boys have allergies and sinus problems. We are always at the doctor office and the copays surely add up.

  31. Pam says

This past fall, my son woke up one night complaining of a boo-boo in his ear. I took him to the doctor’s the very next day to be told he had “rip-roaring ear infections” in both ears. A month later, we followed up with the doctor to find out that the antibiotics hadn’t cleared up the infection and he had to be treated again. I’m now worried that he’d actually had the infections since last spring when we took him in for a possible UTI to be told he had an ear infection too. Apparently my 2 year old has a very high pain tolerance and this would be helpful as I’ve realized there seems to be a fine line between hypochondria and neglect as a parent!

I just read about this in a magazine. My 8 month old was just recently sick, and we wondered if she had an ear infection. It would have been so nice to have since she can’t tell us!

  33. Kat says

Wow! How lucky someone will be to win this! Any family would benefit from not running to the talking and risking infection from other sick children in the waiting room!

Love what you do! Keep it up!!!

  34. Amy says

Hi. Thank you for all the advice and help on your blog, I enjoy reading it. I am taking my 9.5 month old baby boy to the dr. today for what will probably be a wasted visit. He’s had a cold for over a week and I think he may now have an ear infection. I’m not sure though, so if I had this EarCheck, which sounds like a wonderful product, I might have a better idea. It’s so hard to tell in a baby. Thank you!

  35. andrea v says

This sounds like a great product. I would love to use this instead of going to the doc and have it be nothing and look like an over protective mother.

  36. Sarah says

We had our third baby this winter and this would be SOOOOO helpful to me. My other two children had so many ear infections that they both got tubes so I am an anxious mother that would love to know for sure if it’s an ear infection before I take them in!

  37. MrsAdams06 says

This would be great for both my toddler and baby on the way. I’m a bit of a worry-wort, so I’m always nervous my daughter has an ear infection when she’s had a cold and is unusually cranky. (Never has though.) It would be handy to use this monitor to ease my concerns right away, or know if I really do need to take her to the doc.

  38. Terra says

I grew up with ear infections too because I swam a lot. In fact, this past January I had a horrible ear infection (not from swimming), but the doctor refused to give me anything for it because I am pregnant. My ear drum ended up busting and it was the worst pain I’ve ever been through in my life. I would never want that for my daughter, so this would really help since she has horrible allergies from living in Southeast Texas.

I’m a new mom due in July and have NO IDEA what sort of gadgets I really need. Knowing that it’s been really useful by you and others from the Amazon reviews gives me confidence that it’s a good pick. Can’t get enough good advice these days 🙂

  40. Jay says

I think you mentioned the biggest benefit would be unneeded trips to dr. Also the children not getting antibiotics unless it is needed. Thanks!

I would love to win this as it would answer the question of when to go and when not to go to the dr. Seeing how our ped is 1 hr 15 min away it sure would make it so I didn’t make a trip for nothing. It just stinks when you go to find out it is just a cold, or when you don’t go and find out later you should have because it gets worse.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

I would say that my sanity would benefit with one of these bad boys! I, like probably every other parent on Earth, can’t stand having a sick child, let alone trying to get a sick and squirmy child to sit still long enough to check for a fever! This would be awesome to have! Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. Jessica says

I’ve been wanting one of these! I have 4 kids who are prone to ear infections, so I think this would really be nice.

This would be wonderful to have for my kids. My daughter suffered from chronic ear infections for about 2 years, and my son is too small to tell us if his ears hurt. I would love to own this product!!

My husband and I are becoming foster-to-adopt parents. We can use all the supplies we can get! There’s no nine months to prepare, no shower… 😀

I would love one of these! My 3 year old son had so many ear infections when he was younger that he ended up getting tubes. Now I have an eight month old daughter who has already had two ear infections. We got a new pool late last summer and I’m already worried about ear infections and swimmer’s ear.

  54. Linda B says

  58. Mike and Kari says

My first daughter had chronic ear infections and is on her second set of tubes. My newest little one is well on her way. We are constantly at the doctor’s office, and always wondering if she has yet another ear infection. Is she fussing because of teeth? Or is is an ear infection? This past week the nurse at the doctor told me she was going to set up a cot for us. I would love to be reassured by the ear check. Thanks for such a great give away!

  59. Daughter of the The King says

I have 3 kids under 3 in my home. During the winter we are cooped up inside with sickness for what seems an eternity ;). The thermometer we have now is a guessing game. I would love to have something more reliable for those days of wondering if they are sick or REALLY sick!

  60. techyone says

My son is prone to ear infections so its something I have to watch closely for. However we don’t have insurance so it would be wonderful to KNOW if I have to take him in or if I’m just worrying for nothing.

What a great idea! I had no idea these even existed. I have 1 and 1/2 year old who is constantly touching and pulling on her ears and we’ve gone to the doctor a few times with false alarms, so it would definitely be a money and time-saver to be able to check her at home! Thanks!

    catherine.parks@gmail.com

  64. Sarah says

I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old that has had several ear infections that we’ve made trips to the doctor for. You always wonder what’s wrong, then the dr tells you for sure! This would help figure it out a little quicker! I’ll have to find these!
