Making Homemade Cleaning Solutions is one way I have personally found to really save money. If you haven’t started making your own cleaning solutions yet, now may just be the time!

It honestly took me a while before I was willing to try this, but after I did a quick analysis of how much money I could save, I knew it was time to start making up some frugal cleaning solutions of my own! These solutions literally cost about 40 cents or so to make, as opposed to the $3 – $4 price tag you’ll often see on cleaners at the store.

The following is tried and true “recipes” for homemade all-purpose cleaner. Just a few simple ingredients, and you’re on your way to some effective and thrifty solutions!

Homemade 409

  • 2 Tbsp. Distilled White Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp. Borax
  • 1/8 cup Dawn dish soap
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cup Dawn dish soap
  • 1/3 cup Ammonia
  • 3 Tbsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 cup water

Pour vinegar, borax and hot water into spray bottle. Then continue filling spray bottle with cool water. Add dawn dish soap last. No need to shake.

This is a great cleaner, because the vinegar acts as a disinfectant!

Homemade Laundry Stain Remover

I was skeptical of this one at first, but I have two boys that are dirt and grass-stain magnets, and this stain remover has never let me down!

  • 1/3 cup Dawn dish soap
  • 1/3 cup Ammonia
  • 3 Tbsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 cup water

Mix all ingredients together and store in an empty spray bottle (I use an old “Shout” spray bottle).

If you have never tried making your own cleaning solutions, I’d highly encourage you to try! It is easy to do, and you might be amazed at how much money you’ll save!

I make my own window cleaner and laminate floor cleaner. They are so easy and inexpensive, and they work great! I want to try the 409 recipe you have here. Thank you for sharing these!

These are great recipes. It is amazing how many household cleaners you can make, just with things around the home. It is not only economical, but so much healthier to avoid all the chemicals in commercial cleaners. These are the things our grandparents cleaned with for generations, and we've lost site of this.

I have a post on my blog, I hope it is OK to put the link here, that contains a few more/different recipes for things like oven cleaner & microwave de-greaser, etc.

I'm pretty fanatical about avoiding the use of any chemical cleaners at all, and I really find that these homemade cleaners make the house smell so much nicer and make us so much healthier.

These are great tips! I already make my own home made laundry detergent, so adding the recipes to the mix will be great. I can definitely use the stain remover now that warm weather is here and the kids are outside more.

Any recommendations for the type of spray bottle I should use. I had some cheapo one from Dollar Tree probably and it’s not working well. I’m wondering if the baking soda has anything to do with it. I made up some baking soda and water and couldn’t get it to spray(different type of spray bottle).

These are all great recipes for cleaning products! One thing that I have heard of and will be trying is to add a few drops of essential oil to it. I myself love to smell that my house is clean. This way, I can have the best of both worlds! 😉

I noticed in you “Homemade 409” you have dawn dish shop down 2x, both with different amounts. Which is the correct amount. Thanks Mischaele

In your “Homemade 409” you have dawn dish soap listed twice. Both with different amounts. What should the correct amount be? Thanks Mischaele
