Walgreen's $5 Challenge (1)

Welcome, my fellow Walgreens fans! It’s Sunday, time for our weekly Walgreens $5 Challenge.  The place to come for simple scenarios with step-by-step instructions.

Walgreens is a bit different than CVS, so it may be a bigger challenge to obtain a low OOP (out of pocket). If you are new to Walgreens, and wanting to learn the basics, check out this post.

Last week, a few readers had trouble with Register Rewards not printing after paying with RRs. Technically, if you are purchasing the exact product in the ad, there should not be a problem.  It is possible that some Walgreens have a different policy. I plan to get this clarified this week with a phone call to corporate.  Thanks for your patience!

If you are a first time visitor, here’s the lowdown:

Join me each week as I host The Walgreens $5 Challenge!

Seasoned WAGS shoppers: share your best scenario(s) for the upcoming week at Walgreens.

Your budget: $5.00 out-of-pocket cash.

Your mission: to grow that $5.00 into more Register Rewards (RR) to use in upcoming weeks.

*********************************

*RULES* Bloggers: Please make sure at least one scenario is $5 OOP or less

1. Come up with your best scenario/scenarios for the upcoming week at Walgreens using the current weekly ad, monthly deals, and coupons available. Your budget for Out of Pocket (OOP) expenses on the first transaction is only $5.00 (either cash OOP or RRs on hand).

2. Using up to (3) scenarios (we don’t want to overwhelm the newbies with too many transactions), offer up your best scenarios to “grow” that $5.00 into more RRs to use in following weeks.

3. If you want to divide your $5.00 allowance over the 3 scenarios to make them work, that’s fine!

4. Be sure to list coupons by inserts and/or with links to printables to make it easier for everyone to follow along.

Okay…My Walgreens told me you can’t buy something that you can earn rr on and pay with rr and still get your rr…Like I went in and bought the Soft-Soap this week and earned $4 then went back and bought another and used my $4 rr and did not recieve another rr…Is that right?

  2. Regina says

you won’t receive a rr if you are purchasing the exact same item. last week i had trouble getting the rr’s even on different products. this week went to a different store and have been 3 times doing at least 2 transactions each trip with no problems.

Okay…Well, Thank you for the info…I guess I could try it with a small purchase 1st so I don’t spend to much oop…I love your website!!! And I’m trying to get better at the Walgreens game, it’s just CVS seems alot more easier!!!

After last week I figured out the problem. Not only can you not buy the same item, but you can’t buy an item from the same company and still get the register rewards. I tried to use the Neosporin RR on the BandAids and since they are both J&J the RR didn’t print. The manager explained and helped me re-ring.

I think it can be same parent company as long as amounts are different. For example the colgate toothpaste and softsoap this week can be used on each other and still produce the rr.

Has anyone tried doing the scrapbook page that is the special today for .99? I can’t get my pictures to drag to the scrap book page. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or if there is a problem with their program. Thanks for your help!
