Giveaway: Marcal Small Steps Family Starter Kit (Now Closed)

marcal A few months ago, there was a coupon for a free 4-pack of Marcal Small Steps toilet paper in a Sunday insert. I had never heard of this brand, and had no idea where to find it.

Turns out it is actually sold at many stores across the nation, but I never redeemed my coupon. So I was very happy when the folks at Marcal sent me a Family Starter Kit of their new Small Steps line to try for myself.

I was impressed with the 100% recycled paper products, and pleased to see they are whitened without chlorine bleaching.  But I was surprised to learn that they are not sold at a premium price like many other “green” products.

You can join the Small Steps Family to receive coupons and special offers, as well as a chance to participate in research panels.

Marcal is offering one Keeping the Kingdom First reader a “Family Starter Kit” to enjoy! It includes: toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and facial tissue- all made from 100% recycled paper.

We take 3-minute showers to conserve water. We used to be in the military though, so we’re used to it! (When you live in a desert you have to conserve the small amount of water so other people can shower, as well!).

  2. Elizabeth says

We use cloth shopping bags and when we do have the plastic ones we return them to the store for recycling.

  3. Roxanne says

we don’t spend money on mops. We have a “squeege” mom and I just wrap a worn out towel around it and it works great!!! When I am done, we just throw the towel into the washer. 🙂

  4. Cara says

We are composting. I even add all the scraps for cutting coupons I printed on the internet in there.

  5. Jessica says

Recycling! I also try to take advantage of natural sunlight as opposed to leaving all the lights on!

  6. Faith says

I used to be addicted to paper towels! We would go through so many rolls. So now, my latest green thing is to cut down on using them. For a while I got rid of them all together to help end my addiction. Now I’ve brought them back, but use them very minimally 🙂

  7. Melissa says

We recycle newspaper and no longer use paper towels but microfiber cloths instead. I also only wash with cold water.

  8. says

We are cloth diapering fools…one way we go green. I also try to do most of my cleaning with homemade products (vinegar/water, etc). I wash with only cold (except the cloth diapers!) and I enjoy researching other ways to conserve!

  9. Terriann says

We practice “greener living” by making our own cleaning products and recycle as much of our garbage as possible. This includes newspapers, bottles, plastic and paper.

  10. BusyJulie says

We are trying to drink less bottled water, and we are also recycling our newspapers. Thanks!

  11. Rebecca says

We wash in cold water, use cloth shopping bags, hang laundry outside to dry, use cloth napkins instead of paper, grow our own vegetables, and many other things.

  12. Kathleen says

I try to recycle all recyclable containers. The down side to couponing is that you usually get tons of small sized products for free or close to free, and you use more containers. My trash does not recycle all types of bottles, so I bring them in.

  13. Stephanie says

We recycle – that requires us to load all our recyclables up in the car and drive them to the center.

  14. Justine says

I use the back-side of paper for printing coupons, drafts, etc. And if I’m running low, I can usually grab some from the recycle bin at work (from people who make too many copies, etc.) Of course, I always make sure there’s no confidential info first!
Also, while I find that receiving paper bills helps my budgeting, since I pay them online, I use the envelopes for mailing in rebate offers, etc. instead of throwing them away. I haven’t purchased envelopes in a long time!

  15. Alissa says

Hello! I love that we (almost) have the same name! We practice greener living by buying local produce at our farmer’s market when we can, and canning up our own canned goods. Yum!

  16. Tricia Z says

We use aluminum and stainless steel water bottles instead of buying plastic ones. Thanks!

  17. Amy Starr says

I use my reusable bags for my shopping and other things – I usually remember! Thanks!

  18. Melissa says

I buy all my girls’ clothing second hand in order to save money and be green! Thank you!

  19. Cher says

We are trying to produce as little garbage as possible. It takes a lot of discipline but it is worth it. Every little bit adds up–not purchasing convenience foods but making meals from scratch, borrowing toys from the toy lending library instead of piling up garbage from excessive packaging, and living simply whenever possible. Another couple generated only one bag of garbage in a year!! Very inspiring.

  20. Stephanie Anderson says

we use reusable bags and we also don’t buy bottled water, we us our own bottes.

  21. kathy says

We use reusable bags and recycle almost everything we can. Also we try to find people or places to get rid of things we no longer need or want (you would be amazed at how many people or places accept used clothes, even stained, to make projects).

  22. Sarah says

I recycle plastic/paper/cardboard/glass and aluminum. I also buy a lot of useful “recycled” stuff at yardsales and Goodwill.

  23. Renee G says

One of the ways that we practice greener living is by raising as much of our own produce as we can.

Our family recycles all possible materials to cut back on the trash going to our landfills!

  28. Sidni says

  32. Nicole Laven says

I have stopped buying paper towels and am using rags/dish towels instead. I also bring my reusable bags whenever I go shopping. no more needing to choose paper or plastic!

  33. Mindy Holt says

Like you I also started using Smaller Steps paper products. I also use reusable containers whenever possible and the cloth grocery bags. I started using my library card instead of buying books which I figure, saves paper and declutters my house.

  34. Sharon W says

I had my husband put up one of those umbrella looking clothes lines outside to save on electricity.

  35. Sharon W says

    I subscribe.

I could not find the small steps in my area until the coupons were expired. humm?

  36. Bargain Loving Mom says

One of the easiest ways to be green is to shop at thrift stores. Instead of buying new clothes, we shop at thrift stores! When we are done with the clothes or have outgrown them, they are donated back to Goodwill!

  40. cheryl says

I have a Sigg to take water with me where ever I go…that really has saved some $$ too. & We are recycling more stuff now. I think the past 2 months we’ve only had 2 garbage bags in the dumpster on garbage day (33 gal size though)
I have quite a few reusable grocery bags, I always forget to take them (my hands are full with my coupon binder, sigg & purse) ….but they are being used to tote toys around & as library bags.
