It is hard to pick a dish but my mom’s lasagna and Lomo Saltado (Peruvian) are the ones I light up about. Basically anything my mom cooks!

  2. says

My favorite holiday dish is the traditional ham that has been eaten for as long as I can remember! I continue to use the method that my mother does; a mixture of mustard and brown sugar to glaze with pineapple placed on top!
I look forwards to that ham every Christmas! The gravy from the juices is out of this world; sweet and smoky at the same time….yum!

I always look forward to the many casseroles. Most of them make too much to serve to a family of 4 (unless you want leftovers for a month!). My aunt makes a rice and broccoli casserole and of course there is the potato casserole. Yum. I am ready to eat (just not too much, it would defeat my success at weight loss).

My favorite recipe that we usually only have during the holidays is a fruit salad of sorts that may Grandmother dreamed up when I was just a little girl some 40 odd years ago. It’s made with apples, bananas, marshmallows, and raisins all mixed up with mayonnaise and a spoon full of sugar. Some people think it sounds gross but it really is very good.

My favorite Christmas dish is one my grandmothers (both of them!) used to make called Cinnamon Apples. Take a pot of water, dump in a bag of cinnamon red hots and turn on medium. Take some apples, peel them, core them and quarter them and place in the water. Cook until red, but not too mushy! Store the apples in the juice. Best served chilled the next day. Yummmy!!

  15. says

Hmmm…favorite Christmas dish…it’s hard to pick just one. Growing up, we always had another turkey dinner similar to Thanksgiving. But my in-laws make a ham dinner on Christmas. I’ve grown to love ham and cheesy potatoes on Christmas, and I’m even making it this year when I’m hosting Christmas with my parents.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

We haven’t had a traditional Christmas dinner since the years when I got sick and it was just too much to do Thanksgiving and then Christmas back to back with all the trimmings. So we simplified and I started making lasagna for Christmas dinner(and the world didn’t stop). We do traditionally do cookies during the season. I don’t know if that counts. Nothing is nicer than turning on the carols and filling your house with the smell of cookies. Dinnerwise I guess garlic bread would have to be a “traditional” favorite with our dinner. This year since I feel a bit better we may try to make some new traditions and I am resolved to be able to make a dinner roll from scratch with my daughter. Thanks for the giveaway.
