    My daughter is entering 7th grade and we have really stressed not just to be nice to everyone, but especially other girls. The cattiness is outrageous in middle school so we encourage her to set a good example and accept people for who they are.

    I donate school supplies, and outgrown uniforms, and my children always participate… I teach my kids that everyone at some point in time needs a hand…If you lend a hand when needed, there will be a hand for you to grab onto when you do…

    What we are teaching her now is it doesnt matter what others say. If its not true, then SO! She is sensitive like her moma and words hurt her. So at her young age we are teaching her that it doesnt matter what people say. Let it roll off your back! We know the truth and thats all that matters.

    My daughter is just 2, but we practice ‘school’ at home so she can mimick what we do in her daycare. We’ve talked about hugging/helping someone when they are hurt or need help. I was elated when a few days later my daughter’s teacher told me she helped someone who was sad when his mom left and another who was crying when she hurt herself. This all goes along with treating others as you would like to be treated.

    some of the ways we try to send our daughter to school with purpose is to discuss some ways during the day that she can live/share her faith. we pray with her each morning before she leaves on the school bus. and we talk about how having a good attitude, being respectful and treating others well (not just her teachers) is a great witness to those around her

    We say family prayer every morning to start their days off in a positive way and encourage them to read scriptures and say personal prayers daily. We also, encourage them to think of others first and be friends with everyone they come in contact with at school!

    even though we homeschool, service is a HUGE part of our schooling. my five year old serves at a local food pantry on delivery day stocking shelves. we encourage out kids to tithe on their allowance and give above and beyond their means.

    I’m a teacher and always talk to my students about “being different on purpose”- Christians are often looked at because we’re “different” but we can be different based on God’s word and by focusing on Him throughout our daily life and showing that to the world.

    I let my first grader to not be afraid to stand up for what she believes in. It takes a lot to stand a little taller on your beliefs but it will get you through a lot of sticky situations.

We will re-visit these goals periodically to see where we are at with them and give the encouragement that is needed.
