Give Organization with a Savvycents Wallet! (Giveaway)

This month, I am sharing giving ideas and special giveaways as part of The 30-Day Giving Challenge.

Shopping is on everyone’s mind this time of year. The first step to having a frugal holiday is of course, a budget.

Are you familiar with the envelope system of budgeting? Basically, you budget according to certain categories of expenses and then you actually withdraw the cash and keep it in separate envelopes in your wallet. If you overspend, you can take cash out of a different envelope, but once the cash is gone, it’s gone.

Frustrated with paper envelopes and disorganization with her wallet, Melinda Claudpierre created a wallet that allows you to keep your cash in separate categories and also gives you quick access to your driver’s license, coin holder and all of your discount cards and coupons.

This system would also work well for all you $5 Challenge shoppers!

As a stay-at-home mom of three, Melinda knew that she wanted all of these things without sacrificing style, and so she designed the Savvycents wallet as an attractive wallet that any woman would love to carry!

The 8″ x 4″ wallet contains everything you need to organize your monthly or weekly budget using a cash system. With an accordion style file system inside the wallet, you can separate money, coupons, receipts or store discount cards by categories. There are also 6 pockets for debit cards and store discount cards as well as a place for your driver’s license and check book.

My friend Jennifer from Saving and Giving says this about her Savvycents wallet:

I’ve been using my Savvycents wallet for six months, and my cash is so
much more organized. I had been using paper envelopes before, but they ripped or got lost in the bottom of my purse. Now I can open my wallet and easily see how much cash is left in each category. If I find a cute top for my daughter, I can see if there’s clothing money available to buy it or not. I’m not fumbling through envelopes when I check out either. The Savvycents wallet is stylish and functional.

As part of the 30-Day Giving Challenge, I will be donating the adorable Savvycents wallet I received to a local charity.

One KingdomFirstMom.com reader will also win a Savvycents wallet ($24.95 value) to share or enjoy!

  1. Christine Ratliffe says

As I am new to budgeting, I think the envelope system sounds wonderful and would love to win this!

  2. Beth says

We use a modified version of the envelope system-occasionally I must write a check, and that immediately is texted to my husband so he can put it in the quicken worksheet, so we aren’t surprised at the end of the month by fundraiser or other checks that I forget I wrote.

  3. Catie says

I use envelopes for groceries, but everything else is budgeted on a spreadsheet using a zero-balance monthly budget.

  4. says

Well, I am a “graduate” of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, and even though I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit, his basic principles are what I live by. I budget every dollar, every month using a zero-balance budget. When I stick to it strictly, it’s amazing…and when I fudge a bit, it’s still amazing. I tried the envelope system he provides, and it doesn’t work well for me with the paper envelopes, but this pretty little wallet looks FABULOUS!
Doris´s last blog post ..Its a Family Tradition

  5. says

PS following both on Facebook now…what fun! Another easy way to share and pass on all the wisdom I get from y’all to all my non-bloggy friends!

  6. says

My sister-in-law has been using this system for years and I really have admired how she sticks to it. I’ve tried a few times to do this myself but I was never sure where to keep my envelopes: in my purse, in my dresser, in my desk? These wallets are so awesome! I’d love to win one!

  7. Diane says

I currently use an envelope for my coupons, but would love a Savvycents Wallet to help me with organization while shopping.

  8. Ana Maria S. says

We are attempting to do the cash only system…we do use our debit cards for everything (no credit cards at all!) and it would be an awesome help to win this wallet! 🙂

  9. Nichole says

What budgeting system do we use? Ugh, we’re still figuring this out. We have used the cash system in the past, and I’m considering trying it again for the categories for which I am responsible (my husband and I divide responsibility for our budget categories). One of the reasons the cash system didn’t work before was because of how cumbersome it was to keep track of it all with envelopes. This looks great!

  10. Deanna K says

I’m still trying to figure out all of my finances!
I’d like to pay cash for everything and pay down my debts!
This would be a great start.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  11. Mandy H. says

Budgeting system? We follow Dave Ramsey … therefore … we have our cash envelopes! 🙂 This wallet would be wonderful to have. Thanks for the opportunity.

  12. Jan says

I wrote out a budget of essentials years ago and stick to it. I pay all bills with checks and get a set amount of cash a week. I don’t divide the cash into categories, but when it’s gone, it’s gone.

  13. Lisa A. says

I love using the Mvelopes system on the computer, but I must admit my cash for groceries and clothing and gas gets a bit confused in my wallet which has no seperations. So I would love one of these wallets!

  14. Linda says

We’ve just begun serious, focused budgeting, loosely following Dave Ramsey’s outline (haven’t done his FPU course yet). We use OpenOffice.org for our budgeting spreadsheet, and have a wipeoff board on the wall to keep track of all the categories and what we’ve spent/saved for each one. I don’t have a cash plan yet, but would like to try one for such things as clothing, fun fund, groceries, gas, and allowance.

  15. Diane says

I just use an excell sheet and my receipts for budgeting, but am looking for an easy way to try envelope budgeting! 🙂

  16. Rhonda says

I use the envelope system for cash purchases like groceries. I always “spend money on paper” when I get paid and allocate money to each category – otherwise, the budget is history for that pay period

  17. says

I don’t have a formal budgeting system. I’d love to try using Savvycents to get me organized.

    Thanks!

  18. Karen W. says

I use Quicken for my budget but I used to use the envelope system which worked great for me at the time. I would love to win this for my daughter. She and her husband are struggling so much with both attending college, he working and she staying home with their 2 yr old daughter.

  19. Cindy says

I don’t use a budgeting system. I just check grocery and drug store deals and usually spend about the same amount every month.

  20. says

Though I don’t use this system actively, I would love to. This little wallet would be the incentive I need to jumpstart my own envelope system!!! Thank you for offering this!!!

  21. Kelly says

What a great idea and why didn’t I think of it? I prefer to use cash because it makes me much more accountable and able to stick to the budget.

  22. Erin says

I use a modified cash system but it gets confusing. I would love this wallet because I could get rid of my ragged envelopes.

  23. Katie Goodnough says

I am actually looking into the wallet for my mom, she is a big budget-er and loves coupons! She uses them always but has to have so many different wallets for each system I just know she would love the SavvyCents Wallet!! I follow your blog on FB, & Liked it also.

  24. Emily says

We use the envelope system mostly. I have an accordion file at home to keep cash separated into each category, but I have to use envelopes to carry the money outside the house. A wallet like this would be great and give me piece of mind as it can be zipped. No more worrying about cash falling out of unsealed envelopes!

  25. Tanja says

My wallet has 2 cash areas and I tend to stick the change or pull from the wrong fold when I’m out shopping. This would be a nice change and I might actually keep better track if I can label the areas! Plus a bonus area for my checkbook would be great!

  26. Balinda says

I have no current system except to try to pay all bills first…so I would love to have a wallet like this to try this system. My BFF uses the envelope system and she is fantastic with it.

  27. says

I am a subscriber. I used to use cash, then went to trying to do it in excel because the envelopes were not always with me. This wallet would be a great way to get me back to cash and back on track. Thanks for sharing.

  28. Christie says

We’re fairly blessed right now, so I don’t keep as close of tabs as I should on our finances. This would help me know more of what we have, so I know how much we can give!

  29. says

I “know” the lady that invented the Savvycents wallet….Her dad was the music minister at my home church! Small world….they are a wonderful, Christian family….
My husband and I live on a small income for two people and have a cash only budget (except for major bills, like student loans, insurance, phone, etc-those get paid by check). We do not own a credit card (in our possession), but my father-in-law keeps a credit card for us (in our name) in case we ever need anything….
At the beginning of every month (after we get out 1st paycheck), I go to the bank and pull out all the money we need for the month: groceries, out to eat money, “fun money,” etc.
I just use regular business envelopes to keep our cash in, but a Savvycents wallet would be perfect for the organizational part of it!
I think the cash system has really helped us….it also keeps my husband responsible for keeping up with his own money….even the change! He hates having change (actual coins) in his pocket, but I tell him that his change adds up to money and if he wants to use all his “fun money” the coins will come in handy….

I am interested in the envelope system and how it could save our family money. Currently I swipe my debit for everything.

  32. pati h says

I think that wallet would be wonderful organizational tool. I have tried using the enevelopes from the bank before.

I follow you on facebook 🙂

  33. Janelle Burke says

My friend Richelle “The Carolina Clipper” showed me this wallet. It is the only thing on my Christmas list. I have been couponing for 4 weeks and I am learning to be a CVSer this would be a huge help! I love that this is a giveaway where everybody wins!

  34. Michelle says

We use the envelope system for any groceries, entertainment, clothes. Everything else is drafted straight out of the account.

I did forget one thing when setting these up that I recently learned. I should have included a Christmas envelope or a christmas account. I think it would have allowed us more to spend this year.

  35. Jenn says

I have such a hard time budgeting and this would help immensely!

Being a stay at home mom who really needs to watch her pennies, I know I need to find an efficient and EFFECTIVE way to bless my family.

  36. Kelli says

I use a budget form I’ve created but I would like to switch to the envelope system with all cash. I think I would be more effective and efficient.

  37. AMY says

We went through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace program and love the envelope system. I don’t however like pulling out my wrinkled old white envelope when I go to check out at the grocery store. This would be great.

  38. Sharon says

I have an Excel spreadsheet where I keep track of our budget. I start a new sheet each month and enter in all our receipts as I purchase things. I have columns at the bottom that show me how much we’ve spent, vs how much we have left to spend that month.

But, this would be a great gift for my friend and her family as they are trying to get out of debt and just started Financial Peace University.

  39. Robin says

I have been introduced to the envelope system by Dave Ramsey and I’ll never go back to my old ways! It has kept us credit card free!

  40. Melissa says

I’ve seen the envelope system and wanted to do it but haven’t been disciplined enough to put together the envelopes. The wallet is just what I need to actually put the program in place and make 2011 the year I begin to get out of debt.

  41. Jodi says

I use the envelope system as much as possible however I have the same problem as you when I use regular envelopes. This wallet looks like the perfect solution.

  42. Carolyn says

I’m slowly starting into the envelope system. It’s worked well for groceries the last few months, and I’m ready to add another category. Thanks for the giveaway!

  43. Cheryl says

I use Dave Ramsey’s wallet right now, but these are more stylish (no offense Dave!) as far as colors.

  44. Sabrina D says

I have several systems…I save lots of money but can’t help to wonder how much more I could save if I were a tad bit more organized.

  45. kris says

This would be awesome to have to get more organized. We save alot with coupons and really are careful in how much we’re spending each month.

  46. Laura says

Wow! What a great idea. Would really love to have this! I have looked at a lot of organizers and this one would take care of everything and its good looking too!!!

  47. Pattie F. says

I use the envelope system. Would love to win this wallet as it will be so much better than the actual envelopes that I use. Thanks!

  48. Rachel H. says

We have an outlined graph for how much we can spend each week on specific items. This system is adapted from an envelope system my parents used while I was growing up.

  49. Melissa says

We budget in categories, but use our debit card. I’m going to try the envelope system… so this would be perfect!

  50. Kirsten says

I use envelope budgeting which works great for me, but I desperately need a wallet like this, as paper envelopes are not cutting it!

  51. Lee says

We graduated from FPU and have used the envelope system for 2 years and it has worked well for us. Would love to have this wallet to use with my envelopes.

  52. Rachel Sparks says

I budget kinda old school with a notebook. I write down what we have coming in subtract what bills must go out. My cousin uses the envelope system and I think with this wallet, it would be something I would love to try!

  53. Linda from Georgia says

I don’t have a budget system. We are debt free and are blessed to manage to save and live below our means. God is good!

  54. Denice says

I love the Savvycents wallet. What a wonderful idea. This is going on my Christmas “idea” list. Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway!!

  55. Mary E.S. says

We plan to start the envelope system in January.I’ve been reading about this and think it will help me to stick to my budget.

  56. Tammy aka @SkipsMKGirl says

SO excited about this product! I swear that one of my hangups with being disciplined about envelope budgeting and couponing is the bulk of having it all with me. Love these and hope to win one, otherwise, I’ll have to ask for it for Christmas for sure!

  57. Helen says

I am so pleased to find your site today! I truly believe the envelope system works great. But there is a way that I have found to automate it is thru mint.com. You can get a daily total on what you have spent – it categorizes your spending – very good way if you want to move from envelope to electronic budgeting.

I would love this wallet – and teach couponing classes (have one on t he 11th). I would love to show those that attend this wallet as a way to organize their coupons. Thanks for considering me!

    Happy Holidays,

    Helen

  58. MarcyM says

We use the envelope system. I would LOVE one of these…my pesky envelopes are always falling apart!

  59. Jennifer Sessoms says

I don’t do cash budgeting, but my sister does and it works well for her so I may give it a try.

  60. Kristina Booth says

I use just the basic legal sized envelopes. Would love to have the wallet to upgrade too 🙂

  61. Melissa says

I am a pretty good budgeter, but would love to kick it up a notch with the envelope system which my sister has used and has been very successful with!

  62. ACMommy says

I prefer a cash-only system, using a combination of envelopes and a notebook to organize and keep track of everything. I love learning new ways and getting tips though!

  63. Vicki says

I would love the Savvycents wallet. I do not to the cash budget system but would be willing. I also save coupons.

  64. kendra says

what a FUN thing to come up with…why didn’t i think of it?:) i use envelopes in my wallet and LOVE paying with cash, rather than card, because if the $ is in that envelope, that i don’t have to feel guilty for spending it on whatever i’m purchasing, it’s so freeing! sometimes i “rob peter to pay paul” but overall, it just feels responsible for our family. we’re a family of 6 with 1 income so spending wisely, and SAVING SMARTLY;) blesses us!!!

  65. Linda says

I have my budget in an excel spreadsheet, where I enter my receipts weekly as I go, and the spreadsheet updates to show how much money is left after money is first deducted for budgeted items, such as mortgage, utilities, taxes, savings, and food. This way, I never spend more than I can pay on my charge card in one cycle, so I never pay interest or a finance charge, and get the added benefit of not putting out cash immediately when things are tight.

  66. Laura W. says

I use mint.com and refer often to account balances to see where I stand and where I want to be.

  67. Amy says

I am so excited to find your blog – and get a chance to win an awesome wallet! I look forward to following your posts.

  68. Mindy says

Hi!!! I would love love love one of these wallets. I do not currently use the envelope system for budgeting, but would consider trying it out with one of these!

  69. Rebecca Schrader says

I am using the binder method but it is so bulky and I always forget to bring it or I have it in the wrong car. I end up throwing coupons in my purse and look so silly digging around when I am in the store. Most of the time I misplace them and can’t find them when I need them. I think that this wallet would be perfect for me to put my coupons in one place and not have to move them in and out of the binder or simply just lose them on the way to the store. What a great idea!

  70. Amber says

i have a list with everything every month and we stick to it like glue. If I have say 100.00 wrote down for walmart for a month then that is what we stick to. Also coupons and deal searching

  71. Nikki Eddy says

what kind of budgeting system do I prefer? well…..my husband and I look at our calendar and write on it when bills are due and how much they are every 2 weeks.

  72. Amanda H. says

We do the envelopes right now. I cannot say enough about “The total money makeover” by Dave Ramsey. We learned so much and have reduced our debt tremendously!
