Over two years ago, I accepted an opportunity to work with Walmart on what would later become the Walmart Moms program. One of the driving factors behind this decision was a personal desire to improve the couponing experience at Walmart for my readers. I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the day has finally come!
Walmart has finally released an official, new and improved coupon policy thanks to input from not only the Walmart Moms, but a reader survey I shared several months ago. We spoke, they listened! You can view the complete policy here.
There are a couple of major changes I see. First of all, the policy now includes color photos for cashiers to reference, which is a huge plus for coupon shoppers. It clearly states that Walmart WILL accept internet printables, which has been a source of confusion at many stores.
Another change is that Walmart will now accept competitors coupons that feature a specific item for a specified price. They will also allow coupons to exceed the price of the item, and you will receive “overage” on the transaction.
It will likely take some time for all cashiers to be trained on the new policies, so feel free to print out a copy of it for your reference while shopping if needed. I am so pleased to see Walmart implementing these changes, to make saving money with coupons easier for all.
So what do you think about the new coupon policy? Walmart still wants to hear your feedback on the new policy in this quick survey.
I am a participant in the Walmart Moms program — participation is voluntary. Walmart has provided me with compensation for the time and effort spent creating this post, but all as always, opinions are my own.

Hope it makes it easier to use a coupon. Right now Walmart is the worst for using coupons.

This really sounds like a move in the right direction. I’m glad to see the changes and will definitely see if they’re in place at my local Walmart. Thanks for keeping up informed.
Thanks for sharing this information. After reading the policy & viewing the images (and correct me if I’m wrong), looks like you’ve got a misprint in your summary above. Walmart does accept competitors’ coupons but only those “that feature a specific item for a specified price, for example, $2.99”. Unfortunately, however, they will not accept “competitors coupons for a specific amount off”, as you’ve indicated. Want to make sure no one is confused.
@LISA W., I see what you mean, Lisa. That wording is a little tricky. I updated the post to make it more clear. Thanks for letting me know! 🙂
Just printed my copy out. Though around here the WalMart’s are very coupon friendly.

I can’t stand Walmart but may give it another try due to the fact it is because of their horrible coupon policy and lack of training there of that I don’t like to shop there. However I did write a post linking to your post, informing my readers of this NEW policy and am encouraging myself to give them another try because they do have some awesome deals from time to time 😉 I pray the links are ok?
Walmart is accepting Walgreens Register Rewards because they are not competitor coupons. They are manufacturer catalina coupons. This means they don’t fall under the $$ off rule. I found that they were unscannable though because the cashiers didn’t know to only scan the smaller barcode. Once they scanned just the small barcode the register recognized it and accepted it with no problems.

Still one of the worse coupon policies I’ve ever seen and what my walmart has been doing for years. I want better
@Brooke, I am really surprised you feel this way. Walmart’s new policy is very generous and most readers were quite pleased with the changes. I hope you will fill out the survey to let Walmart know your thoughts.
