Getting to know the Dyson Digital Slim

I recently introduced you to the new Dyson DC35 Digital Slim, a powerful cordless vacuum with a convertible wand. Since I have never owned a Dyson, I wasn’t sure if it would live up to all the hype.

Never lose suction? Check.

Powerful and efficient? Check.

Root cyclone technology leaves no dust behind? Check.

I noticed initially that the Digital Slim is a bit bulkier than traditional stick vacs, but I quickly got over that when I saw how much dust and dirt that powerful motor picks up. With three years of testing and development behind it, this is unlike any vacuum I have ever tried.

More on the Dyson Digital Slim:

  • Powered by the Dyson digital motor, the vacuum has anti-static carbon fiber brushes to remove fine dust particles from hard floors. I noticed my floors looked much cleaner than they had in a very long time, without having to mop.
  • Dyson’s patented Root Cyclone™ technology – condensed to fit into the machine – spins dust and dirt out of the air using centrifugal force, so there’s no loses of suction.
  • A dual power mode allows up to 15 minutes of constant suction.  For stubborn dirt, a button can trigger 6 minutes of higher suction. This may not seem long, but it is enough to vacuum my kitchen, family room and entryway with time to spare.
  • A 26 inch, lightweight aluminum wand attaches directly to the machine to convert it from a handheld to a slim vacuum cleaner. This is my favorite feature! It can easily be used in the car, in my messy pantry and other small spaces.

Dyson shared this behind-the-scenes video all about the testing and development that went into the DC35. The geeky gadget lover in me found it quite interesting! Check it out and let me know what you think – one lucky reader will have an opportunity to win one of these soon.

What do you find interesting about Dyson technology?

I think this product is amazing. Just the amount of research and work that has gone into making and testing it just blows you away. I have never used the product and prior to this post have never even heard of it, but it definitely makes me want to own one. I know you mentioned how well it works on wood floors, but what about tile and carpeting?

Okay, I’m totally grossed about by the dust mites they grow!! Yuck! 😀 But it was very interesting to hear about how they have developed a way to separate the dust particles so that it doesn’t cause a loss of air flow and suction. That’s what happened to my vacuum cleaner which just died last week, (making this a perfect time to win a vacuum!).

I love my old Dyson but I think it’s been greatly improved since we bought ours 6 years ago. I’ve worn out two plugs and three hoses, so I hope they’ve improved the durability of those components with the newer models. I am always grossed out the volume of dust and dog hair the vacuum picks up but I much rather have it in the garbage than on our floors. I would love to have another smaller vacuum for the sunroom area since I am pulling out the big one every day to suck up the mud and dirt that comes with a rainy springtime!
