I took a grooming class to learn more tips on how to groom my dog. I did a cost analysis based on past experience, current prices and projected lifespan. I figure I can save $6,000.

Ann, wow, I had no idea you could take a grooming class! That is a great tip. My dogs are short-haired, so that is not a need for me but I am sure others appreciated your link. Thanks for sharing!

Frugally Me- Thanks so much for stopping by and welcome to the blogosphere! You are welcome to listed to the archive anytime on demand. I am off to check out your new blog!

    Hi Alyssa,
    Tips for Pets:
We have 7 horses and 5 dogs and we are constantly looking for frugal ways to save money.

    1. Buy the best food you can buy – it is not only good for them going in but less comes out in for lack of a better word "poop"! They are able to utilize more of the food if it is better quality.

    2. Learn to treat the minor things for your animals – I self-vaccinate with my vet's guidance. This saves us a ton of money.

    3. Keep up on worming – take stool samples in and have them analyzed. Shop around for your medicine including wormers for the best deals.

    4. Use coupons where you are able to combine sales and sign up for ALL pet sites to get access to high value coupons.

    5. Attend the get togethers that PetsMart puts on – they will give away treats, coupons and more for free!

    6. Establish a relationship with your veterinarian and it will cost you less in the long run.

    7. If you would like to work with your dog to become a therapy dog – check out the various therapy organizations and find out the qualifications – your expenses to achieve this therapy certification is tax deductible along with your travels and additioanl expenses for re-certification. Check Federal/state tax laws for the complete information.

    8. Do not give you dogs scraps – as much as you would love to do this it can cause serious digestive issues. A little chicken or hot dog cut up is okay if your dog can tolerate but not scraps from the dinner plate!

    9. Do your own grooming – how much fun would it be to get a small swimming pool and the kids give the dog a bath? Priceless.

    10. You don't have to bathe your dog all the time to have a nice smelling dog. Bathes should be limited to keep your pet from getting dry sking. Get some Cornstarch and add a little essential oil and put in a shaker – sprinkle over your dog, work into the coat and then brush out – this will lift out the "doggy smell", along with any dirt without stripping oils from your dogs skin.

I post periodically on my blog regarding pets and what we do to save money so we can keep our beloved family members. Would love for you to Stop by and check out the Ranch – door is always open!
