My Glasses Story

Glasses have been a part of my life since second grade. I will never forget the teacher that I adored noticed I was having trouble seeing. First, she moved me to the front of the room, and when that didn’t help, she “told” on me to my parents. I loved this teacher, but was really, really mad at her for telling my parents I needed glasses! To my seven-year-old self, this was betrayal!

Another moment I will never forget is at that first appointment, and putting my eyeglasses on for the first time. All of a sudden, everything was in focus and I could SEE! I embarrassed my poor mom as we walked into Walmart after that appointment and I was pointing at everything that I could see now: cars, people, the letters on the store. I will never forget that feeling of amazement and wonder. I hadn’t noticed my eyesight deteriorating; it just happened.

Fast-forward 25 years, and I am still sporting classy specs, but the ordering process is a little easier than it was when I was seven. Growing up, I did not like having to go to eye appointments for two reasons: 1) they blew that air into your eyes, and 2) waiting for your glasses to be made. Sometimes we sat in that waiting room for what felt like hours. I had better things to do! Ha! Now the waiting for your new specs is even easier: you can order eyeglasses online!

It’s been awhile since I’ve had my eyes checked, so I really need to make sure my prescription is up-to-date. I had planned to buy my next pair online, but well… somehow, I lost my prescription (blush) and since it is out of date, I have to get my eyes check to receive a new prescription. This time, however, instead of buying them at the store, I will buy glasses online. I cannot wait to sit back and wait for them to come to me instead of having to return to the store for pickup. Yay!
