Ministry Monday: Live like you were dying

You know, it is actually quite funny that I titled my post “Live like you were dying;” because that song wore on my last nerve. I mean, I loved it’s message, but ugh! It was played All. The. Time.

And while I’m not sure I would ever go mountain climbing or skydiving, the message is saying to, “live life to the full, because you never know when it will be over.”

Reality.

If there is anything that the earthquake in Haiti should have taught (or reminded) us, it is that life can change in a matter of seconds. The world as we know it can be drastically altered in ways we probably cannot even imagine.

Uh-oh, here comes Jesus…

Jesus said, “… I have come so that you may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10b) Jesus said that! So, why are we not living it? We are not living it because we are too busy.

Hmmm, so you are saying…

Let’s begin living like we know we have a time limit! I mean, really… what harm could it do? Hurts can be healed, hearts can be mended, families can be restored. We have nothing to lose (except anger, unforgiveness, stress, a hardened heart, hurt, bitterness), and so much to gain.

And that means what, exactly?

If you are angry at someone, for goodness sake, forgive them! It will do both of you a world of good. If you are holding a grudge, let it go. If you let your spouse and/or children walk out the door without letting them know you love them, shame on you. Change that immediately. Yes, I said to get over yourself.

Who are we, that it is okay to let our anger get in the way of our love for someone? We are but a mist, a vapor, that is only here for a time.

What are you going to do with the time you have been given?

Make. It. Count.

You’re right on target. We get so caught up in the busyness of every day that we forget the things that really matter.

My family just had a conversation–yesterday–about not holding on to grudges or keeping up an argument. Such an important lesson to teach children, too.
