Gettin’ Crafty: A Coffee Filter Wreath

So, most of you know I’m not exactly Mrs. Crafty, but every once in awhile, I like to get my craft on.

It had been over a month since I purchased the supplies to make a coffee filter wreath, and I decided that last night would be a good night to make it.

I piled the supplies in the living room floor, turned Netflix onto one of my favorite shows, Burn Notice, and got to work.

What I had forgotten is that the glue gun does not like me. It never fails that I manage to hurt myself at least once every time I use the glue gun. This time was no exception, and with 150+ coffee filters to glue, the odds were not in my favor. I did fairly well until I was nearing the end and managed to blister up two of my main typing fingers. {FYI, if this happens to you, tea tree oil is supposed to pull the burn out. I will be filing that away for future use, because obviously, I’m going to need it. Thanks, Myra!}

Rather than spray-painting the letter (which, to be honest, is definitely easier than what I did!), I covered it in scrapbook paper. I am pleased with the way it turned out, though.

I added a ribbon, but found out that the wreath was too fluffy to hang on my front door and have my front door actually shut. So, I scratched that and hung it on the wall instead. Fab.

Five episodes, 4.5 hours, and two burned fingers later, my wreath is complete. Now, when you walk into my home, this lovely creation greets you.

Oh, and the bonus? All three girls want one for themselves. It looks like I have about 15 more episodes worth of coffee-filter gluing ahead of me! Hopefully, it will be sans burned fingers.

Want to make one for yourself? My friend Amy at Mom Advice is always crafting up something amazing. Her coffee filter wreath tutorial has pictures and is super-easy to follow.

    It looks lovely! Love the color! I made my first one this year for my girlfriend-then discovered it was way too big for her home! So I’m keeping it…for now. LOL

    This is just the cutest! I absolutely love it. I like the idea of using the scrapbook paper!

    Regarding the glue gun burns- I had them so bad with my glue gun I literally burned off the tips of my fingers. I had to buy one of those cheap glue guns (a mini) at Walmart because my large glue gun clogged up and it doesn’t seem to get as hot as the one I had before. I will have to look into the dual temp one that Tara is talking about!

    That Martha Stewart keeps a bowl of ice water beside her when using her glue gun. She is so smart. I always remember that after I burn myself 😉

    Thanks so much for linking up to me- xo
